This is a superb Bon shamanic wooden mask which I acquired in Nepal over 40 years ago. It's hand carved and embellished with a reddish color animal hair moustache and beard. The shamen performed traditional rituals and dances for the benefit of their communities-to control the environment, to communicate with ancestors and so on. The Bon religion, based on the spirit of Nature is said to have predated Buddhism. The mask is has been wired for hanging as shown in the photos. It measure approximately 12 inches in length by 7.5-8 inches and has a convcave depth of about 2.5 to 3 inches. It's a rare piece and very collectible. Exactly as shown in photos.
