This is a rare quality Banjara shoulder bag from the 80-90’s. It features a variety of traditonal ethnic tribal textile details including hand embroidery and intricate mirror work as well as silver bead & cowrie shell decoration. This bag is unique and one of a kind.
This bag measures 16 inches in length by 11.5 inches in height. The shoulder straps extend12 inches beyond the top of the bag. This bag is reversible with magnificent embroidery on both sides.
The primary color combination is red and orange with accents of purple and rust. Gudri dash and dot shape stitches are commonly used to decorate the backside of many of these authentic Rajasthani and Gujarati tribal storage and carry all bags.
This bag is freshly lined in orange cotton with an inside open top pocket. There is a sturdy zip closure at the top of the bag.
In India for millenia young women have been stitching and embroidering works of textile art as part of their wedding “trousseau”. Wall hangings and “Chakla” squares as well as “Chanderwah” blanket covers are all part of this rich tradtion.
